These are provided for free by website hosting companies as long as you sign up to a website hosting package which may include one or more free domain names.

Sometimes you only need to purchase a domain with the package being free - Usually because the web host hopes you will eventually pay for more advanced features.

Hosted Website Builders are usually wizard driven – i.e. a software wizard leads you step by step through the process of building your website.

These website builders vary in quality and features depending on the host.

Pros:

Free – as long as you retain your website hosting.
Wizard driven – very easy to use for non technical people.
Very quick website building.
You can use them to put up a temporary website for free while you redesign or build a more professional version of your website in the background.

Cons

Variable quality of designs and availability of features from host to host
There is often no demo so you may not be able to see what you will end up with until you have signed up for and paid for web hosting
You may not be able to incorporate other features of the hosts into your website unless you upgrade e.g. newsletters, forums, e-commerce.
